Help your Year Five child
There are many ways that you can support your child this year with their learning.
Spelling Tests are every Friday. Encouraging and helping your child to learn their spellings for this would be really useful. Children are asked to learn between 10 and 20 words and may find it helpful to spend 10 minutes or so a day with you making sure they feel really confident. If your child is finding their spellings too challenging, or not challenging enough, please come and see us.
Reading with your child is also a really useful way to help them with their learning. Reading to them is just as beneficial as them readig to you. It offers the opportunity to expand their vocabulary as well as their awareness of different genres. Discussing what you have read together is also very helpful as it ensures that your child is understanding what they are reading. Please voice any concerns with us directly, or in the reading records, as we check these weekly whilst in guided reading.
Once a week, the children have a times table test. Please continue to encourage your child to learn their times tables as they will find all aspects of maths much more accessible once they are confident. Recalling them in the car or whilst having dinner is the perfect way to slip them into your daily routine.
Children have homework on a Wednesday, This is based on learning that we have done in class. Monitoring and helping them if they need it would be great. If you feel that the homework is not suitable for your child, please do not hesitate to come and see us.
If you feel that you would like more specific advice as to how to help your child, please pop into the 5B or 5C classroom. We will be happy to sit down with you and discuss you child and their learning in more detail.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
