Welcome to Year Three

Mr Jones, Mrs Jackson and Mrs. Showler (LSA).

Mrs Jackson Mr Jones Mrs Showler

This is an exciting year, where the children make the move from KS1 to KS2. As well as a new playground to play in and new routines to get used to, there are lots of exciting activities to look forward to. These include dressing-up History days, off-site PE and creative art and DT projects, to mention a few.

Please take a look around our web pages and come and see us - even if it’s just to say hello.

Homework

Reading: Please continue to encourage your child to read aloud to you at home as often as possible and write the names of the books they read in their Reading Record.

We recommend a mixture of independent reading, reading with and reading to your child for 15 minutes per day.

Children are encouraged to fill in a book review once they have finished. If there is not one in their book bag you can download and print one from the website. Please encourage your child to explain why (using because) they liked/didn’t like the book.

Spellings (5/10 minutes per day): Spelling lists will be handed out most Fridays and words tested the following Friday. If children do not pick up a list on Friday for whatever reason, spellings can be found on the Year 3 Curriculum.

Times Tables (5/10 minutes per day): Please encourage your child to learn their times tables. Weekly times tables challenges take place on a Friday morning. These are designed to help the children develop confidence using the multiplication and division. All children will be working towards gaining their bronze certificate. In order to achieve this they need to be able to recall the x2, x5 and x10 multiplication and associated division facts at speed.
Please view 'Help with Times Tables' page.

Mathematics:

CGP Targeted Question Book.

Contributions towards these books are gratefully received and can be paid online.

04/11/2016: Place value. Please complete pages 6 & 7 only.

11/11/2016: Ordering and comparing. Please complete p10-11 only.

18/11/2016: Partitioning. Please complete p12-13 only.

Later in the year: We will also send home another piece of homework to support their learning. This could be another English or Mathematics based task or topic related.

We like to be flexible in our planning to meet the needs of our children. Whilst we have given an overview for the planned topics for the year, these may change from time to time.
